Fall Newsletter 2016

Dear Chequamegon Bay neighbors,
The Rec Center had a great summer with strong use of our facility and classes.  Outdoor Adventure Camp and Aqua Fit had record numbers, and we finally broke 500 entrants in the Point to LaPointe Swim.  With the arrival of school and cooler weather, we turn to our fall programming.
New this fall is Boot Camp Remix, an intermediate exercise class for the after-work crowd, led by personal trainers Jessi Kelm and Jay McDonald.  We are adding a ‘hardcore’ 10k to the Peel Out 5k Trail Run on Oct. 8 (Applefest Saturday) that will run on the new mountain bike trails.  For something less physical, Ellie Braddock is offering a Mindfulness Class at the pavilion.  If you were too busy this summer, you can start learning to sail with North Coast Community Sailing’s extended hours this fall at Washburn’s West End Park.
Our usual popular classes are still here, including Aqua Fit, Ballroom Dancing, 2 Yoga classes, Aqua Zumba, Silver Sneakers, and Indoor Walking.  For kids, Martial Arts, Swim Lessons, Home School Swim and Swim Team for those who were inspired by Katie Ledecky and Michael Phelps.
Lifeguards needed!  We are running a Red Cross Lifeguard class Sept. 30-Oct. 2 and  offer flexible scheduling and a free membership to all regular staff.
Thanks to the many sponsors and volunteers who helped make the Point to LaPointe Swim our best year ever.  The event brought over 1000 people to Bayfield and LaPointe, and will raise almost $50,000 for the Rec Center.
This month marks our 10th anniversary as a non-profit operating the Bayfield Area Recreation Center.  When we dreamed up this venture in 2006, we weren’t really sure our rural community could support a rec center.  This past year, we shattered all attendance records with over 50,000 visits.  We have come a long way, thanks to the contributions and efforts of many people and organizations.  Looking forward to another 10 years!
